What a group does here

In Luxembourg, the Mullerthal is called Little Switzerland, and that's because of the rocks rising out of the forest. They stand so close together that the trails wind between them and sometimes squeeze through a gap where only one person fits at a time. Kids linger there the longest, and adults need a moment to get used to it. At the Wolfsschlucht, the rock walls tower thirty meters high, and the trail runs between them via stairs.

This is the smallest destination we offer, with nine homes. That means you need to book early, especially for the May holiday. What you get in return is that you don't need a car for your hike. At some of the homes, you walk out of the garden and straight onto a marked trail. If you want to climb, Berdorf has a climbing park for groups of up to twenty people. At the castles of Beaufort, you get a guided tour from ten people. In the evening, you eat with the group on one of the terraces on Echternach's market square. For large groups of more than twenty people, the selection here is too small.

Season

Spring versus high summer

In spring, the water in the Schiessentümpel waterfall runs high, and you hear it before you see it. In August it often runs dry, and the crowds at the rocks are at their biggest. If you want the trails to yourself, a Wednesday in June beats a weekend in July.

  • Mullerthal Trail, marked trail from most of the homes
  • Schiessentümpel, waterfall a twenty-minute walk away
  • Beaufort Castle, guided tour from ten people
  • Climbing park at Berdorf, groups of up to twenty people

Out and about

Where to head

They call it Little Switzerland here, because of the rocks. The rocks, the gorges and the waterfall are all along the Mullerthal Trail, often within walking distance of the home.

Ingrid on this destination

Ingrid walks the first stretch of every trail here herself. Ask her which route is passable after rain, because the rocks get slippery.

How long is the drive to the Ardennes?

That depends a lot on where you're leaving from and where in the Ardennes your accommodation is located.

From the center of the Netherlands, you can often be in the Ardennes in about three to four hours. From the south of the Netherlands and large parts of Belgium, the travel time is often considerably shorter.

That makes the Ardennes ideal for a weekend away: you really get away, without spending a whole day traveling.

Can we come by tour bus?

At some accommodations, a tour bus can get right up to or close to the house. Other houses are on a narrower or steeper road, for example.

Coming by tour bus? Let us know in advance. Then we can check whether the accommodation is easy to reach for a bus.

What is there to do in the Ardennes?

A lot. And that's exactly why we're so excited about this region.

Think hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, climbing, visiting caves, discovering castles, exploring charming towns, or simply enjoying time together around the house.

The options vary by region and season.
