Luxembourg on the Semois
The southernmost stretch of the Belgian Ardennes. Here the Semois winds through tobacco villages and the forests run all the way across the French border. Plenty of room for a group of thirty to head off in every direction.

What a group does here
Drive down the hill at Bouillon and suddenly the Semois lies below you, with the castle up above on the rock. The water here is shallow and slow. In the villages around it, the old tobacco barns are still standing. Some of them have been converted into houses that fit thirty people. If you arrive in October, you won't see the mist lift off the river until around eleven.
During the day, a group does two things at once here. Some hike the seventeen kilometers to Botassart, while others paddle a canoe from Bouillon to Poupehan. In the evening everyone comes back to one table, and these houses are built for exactly that. From April to October the water is high enough for paddling, and in winter it's all about hiking and stoking the fire. At the Orval Abbey you can book a tasting for your whole group. A sports group that needs a field is less well served here. The fields are in the villages, and that's a twenty-minute drive.

Season
May versus August
In August the Semois runs so low that a group has to carry the canoes partway. In May you reach Poupehan in two hours, without getting out once. October has an advantage that's rarely mentioned. The tobacco barns are empty then, and owners are more willing to let groups take a look inside.
- Hiking from Bouillon, loops of 5 to 18 kilometers
- Canoeing to Poupehan, two hours for twenty people
- Tasting at Orval Abbey, groups by appointment
- Mountain biking in the Forêt d'Anlier, 9,000 hectares without a village
Ingrid on this destination
Ingrid spent three days driving around here last fall and slept in four of these houses. Ask her which kitchen is truly built for thirty people, because you can't tell from photos.
How long is the drive to the Ardennes?
That depends a lot on where you're leaving from and where in the Ardennes your accommodation is located.
From the center of the Netherlands, you can often be in the Ardennes in about three to four hours. From the south of the Netherlands and large parts of Belgium, the travel time is often considerably shorter.
That makes the Ardennes ideal for a weekend away: you really get away, without spending a whole day traveling.
Can we come by tour bus?
At some accommodations, a tour bus can get right up to or close to the house. Other houses are on a narrower or steeper road, for example.
Coming by tour bus? Let us know in advance. Then we can check whether the accommodation is easy to reach for a bus.
What is there to do in the Ardennes?
A lot. And that's exactly why we're so excited about this region.
Think hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, climbing, visiting caves, discovering castles, exploring charming towns, or simply enjoying time together around the house.
The options vary by region and season.
